A podiatrist is a health professional, trained and educated to assess, diagnose and treat problems of the foot and lower limbs.

Podiatrists can advise on foot care, health education, gait analysis, footwear advice and come up with therapeutic care plans that are designed to maximize mobility and the patient’s level of activity.  In addition Extended Scope Podiatrists can perform corticosteroid injection therapy, shockwave therapy and nail surgery.

There isn’t one! The term chiropodist is one mainly used in the United Kingdom, but the term podiatrist is recognised and used more internationally.

But in short a podiatrist can-

  • Assess and provide routine care of common foot complaints such as corns and verrucae (Common foot problems)
  • Assess the structure, alignment and function of the feet and legs with appropriate treatment such as orthoses (insoles) to correct any abnormality (biomechanics and orthotics)
  • Perform Nail surgery using local anaesthetics for ingrown toenails
  • Manage patients at high risk of foot problems such as diabetes, arthritis, and peripheral vascular disease (Diabetes, Arthritis)
  • Advise on prevention of foot problems and how to keep your feet in good health (Tips to healthy feet)

Yes.  If you are in a care home I can come and visit you to provide footcare.  If you run a care home and want to provide a foot care clinic for your residents please get in touch to discuss my avaiability.

I provide home visits to any clients.  You do not need to have mobility issues.  I cover a large area in Essex, including Brentwood, Chelmsford & Basildon and the surrounding areas.  If you are a little further away please get in touch as I may be able to accomodate your needs.
